Ferrosilicon is also used as an alloying agent in steelmaking. The addition of a certain amount of silicon to the steel can significantly increase the strength, hardness and elasticity of the steel, increase the magnetic permeability of the steel, and reduce the hysteresis loss of the transformer steel.

Production Process
1) Ferrosilicon is made from coke, steel scrap, quartz (or silica) and smelted in an electric furnace.
2) Most of the smelting ferrosilicon uses metallurgical coke as a reducing agent, and steel scrap is a regulator of ferrosilicon. The ore is reduced to ferronickel by a carbothermal method in a submerged arc furnace, followed by refining. Frost is 90%.
